Highlight of the Month
Who is Samona Robinson?
I am a wife, a mother to three beautiful children and an entrepreneur, the owner of Mocha’s Boutiquee LLC and Mocha Mona’s Creations. I am the first to graduate college in my family and I am a what you call a fighter. Let me explain. In 2007, I was diagnosed with an auto immune disease that changed my entire life. I was a sophomore in college and at the halfway mark of completing my degree. I literally fought just about every physician that wanted me to come home halfway through to get treatment but was determined to finish school and in December of 2009 I graduated with a Bachelors of Arts from Concord University with honors.
I say I am a fighter because I never gave up. I tried to find the best in every situation and move accordingly.
I am what they call a military brat and now a military spouse. I am a creative thinker and can be super clumsy. My favorite color is purple and I have a new found love for cruises. I love to laugh and the most importantly, I love being a mother.
How did Mocha’s Boutiquee come about?
Fashion has always been a part of my life. Growing up I had my own kind of style. I relied heavily on the clothing my parents bought me until I came of an age to buy for myself. I remember getting my first retail job at 16 at a clothing store in our local mall and I was over the moon with excitement of the endless possibilities of new clothes. It was there I learned so much more about fashion. I literally changed my wardrobe each season and knew then I wanted to pursue something more in fashion.
Mocha’s Boutiquee came from a promise I vowed to myself to never give up on me. Every woman goes through a phase after giving birth where they don’t feel beautiful, their clothes no longer fit and they reminisce about their younger bodies. And frankly that was me. After giving birth to my first son I found myself at a very low point in my life. But it wasn’t until I walked the mall one day that my love for fashion came rushing back. I talked with other moms who were feeling just like me and it motivated me to pursue my dream of opening my own boutique.
It always seems as though life throws you curve balls to knock you off track. It took sometime but September 2020 Mocha’s Boutiquee LLC launched and has been one of the biggest accomplishments I have had in my life so far.
What’s been most rewarding about starting your business?
The creativity has been the most rewarding aspect of starting my business. I love being able to showcase my creative side in the pieces I post online and the marketing and advertising I post to get my companies name out there. It is also rewarding when my customers leave reviews of how pretty and sexy they feel in an item I suggested would look good on them. I also find it rewarding to have something you can call your own. You wake up every morning, look in the mirror say good morning beautiful, slip on an item from your boutique and someone compliments you on your outfit. I don’t know about anyone else but that makes all the late nights and long hours all worth it.
Say it’s a Friday night, and I need something cute to go out on the town in. What does Mocha’s Boutiquee have to offer?
Whether it is a night out on the town or a special night in with the loved one because you couldn’t find a babysitter, Mocha’s Boutiquee offers Comfy, Cozy and Chic pieces for just about any occasion. From trendy two-piece sets, to casual work place jumpsuits and cardigans Mocha’s Boutiquee offers and array of items. For a Friday night I would suggest our “Pencil Girl Dress” it comes in five (5) beautiful colors or the layer The Slim Fit Jumpsuit with one of our Everyday Cardigans. You can dress it up with some pumps and a crossover bag or dress it down with some boats and a cute scarf.
Do you have any future plans to expand the business?
I do. It is my DREAM to own my own store front one day! I mean I can see it now my name in lights, a red carpet and even a fashion show to show off my creative side. It is never to late to start on your dreams. I am a firm believereverything happens in it own time. I will be expanding and creating a men’s and children’s line as well. We’re going to make this a family affair!
What made you decide to start an online boutique at this point in your life?
As a military spouse I have had to give up several amazing jobs to follow my husband and it wasn’t until this last move that I wanted something more for myself. I wanted something I could call my own and take with me if we were to move again. I wanted financial freedom and stability, something for my children to grow up and be proud of. At this point in my life I want to do something for me that makes me happy and opening Mocha’s Boutiquee has truly made me happy.
What is one thing you really want people to know about Mocha’s Boutiquee?
Mocha’s Boutiquee is for every woman who has ever question themselves about not feeling comfortable in a particular outfit. If we don’t have it, we will look for it. We want you to feel comfortable in your skin and walk out your door with purpose. Never give up on yourself and to remember you are beautiful!
